Path of Most Resistence

March 12th, 2009

Washington D.C.-Water is California’s is new gold. While current supplies are low, political and legal resistance remains high. The water shortage is another entry on the current crisis list.

The complex crisis has two congressional representatives from opposing political ends quite literally on the same page to try to ease the problems. George Radanovich (R-Mariposa) and Jim Costa (D-Fresno), both represent the agricultural heartland of Central California.

“There is not a more pressing issue facing the San Joaquin Valley than the current drought, turned man made water shortage,” said Radanovich. “Tens of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars of income will be lost if Delta water continues to be restricted by the ESA. It’s imperative that the Natural Resources Committee hold a hearing H.R. 856 so we can start the process of getting it passed, signed into law and allow the pumps to start operating.”

“A third year of drought is having a major impact on our farmers, farm workers, and the overall economy of our Valley. We need to find short-term and long-term solutions for our water challenges, and I am confident this bill can do that,” said Costa.

The congressional representatives sent a letter to the House Subcommittee on Water and Power to help ease the current water flow restrictions in the San Joaquin Valley. The area’s number one industry and day-to-day lifestyle remains threatened by politics at the water pumps.

In the meantime, water conservation and creative water capture are critical components to Central California’s future, while nature and man find an acceptable course for a reliable water source. Look around Alviston.com for useful water-saving appliances and practices.
