River Coverage

September 27th, 2009

Central CA-Some of those in the information business need a “job well done” from time to time. Green News sends this “JWD” out to the Fresno Bee for its coverage of the San Joaquin River in their Sunday, September 27, 2009 edition.

It’s a water controversy over 100 years in the making and still developing. The Bee staff did an extraordinary job explaining the past, present, and future of the extremely complex issue.

It’s all about restoring a river, restoring a salmon run, and keeping the #1 agricultural region in the world viable. A delicate balancing act that has thousands, if not millions, of residents in Central California angry, scared, struggling, and confused. Read about it on the Bee’s website. However, if you can get your hands on the actual paper, it is a good example of why that form of information remains valuable, even in the e-information age.

Thoroughly Green Reporting*

September 13th, 2009

Clovis Unified School District-Take a look at the progress.  Ground has broken and the wheels are in motion on the first energy-efficient building of its kind out west.  Buchanan High School is home to the Energy Building Project.

It’s a green building design that is sure to get more and more attention as the structure takes shape. Search Alviston.com for more information on the historic “green” project.  In the meantime, we’ll continue to follow the progress.

*No carbon emissions were created and no fossil fuel used in gathering this story.  Green News was within bicycling distance of the project so peddle power was the mode of transportation and a battery-powered digital camera was used for the pictures.  The manufacturing of the camera, bike, and battery are the only carbon swap in the equation-those figures are minimal.
