Aggressive Green

July 17th, 2008

Fresno, CA-Just when you thought Fresno was only good for punch lines on late night talk shows we get this.  A detailed plan to designate the whole county as green.  While that might still make some laugh, Fresno County planners are attempting to put a serious face on the green issue.

Supervisor Henry Perea is spearheading the Go Green concept.  The plan includes incentives for county employees to think and work green.  Incentives like free parking for carpoolers, alternative work schedules that make sense and save resources.  The Go Green plans may effect those doing business in the county as well, with green building requirements and new green space development.

The idea behind the Go Green designation is take proven green practices and put them to work.  There are so many green strategies, Fresno County is considering a green coordinator to manage the concept.

Green Challenge

July 11th, 2008

Fresno, CA-You don’t spend over 30 years in one industry without learning a little bit about your customer.  Actually in the case of Dan Gamel, owner of RV dealerships out west, you learn a lot.  Right now Gamel challenges the notion that recreational vehicles are not what vacationers want.  To the contrary Gamel believes that the freedom RV’s provide is precisely what vacationers want, they are just perplexed by conflicting messages.  Gamel will spend as much time as necessary to show an interested person that RV vacations are affordable (you have to pay for the fuel one way or another) and yes, even more green, than other popular travel options.  Some green watchers, who start out skeptical, now find it hard to challenge the “Gamel logic”.

The biggest argument in favor of RV travel is, it’s not a jet.  When you compare the carbon foot print of the two types of travel, the RV wins wheels down.  Some other strengths to the Gamel case; when you go away in an RV it’s usually an extended trip, so the home you leave behind is quiet and not using energy for a long period of time; a resource and money savings.  Also, according to Gamel, the RV lifestyle is wrapped in green.  Most RV travel destinations take you to the great outdoors, where you simply park your rolling shelter and enjoy the wonders of nature.  Many RV customers have great respect and appreciation for nature and do their best to preserve it.  Certainly they too need a place to come back to for peace and serenity in the future.  Gamel is convinced that the true RVer is as green as they come.  Gamel makes a case that even has some green-elite appreciating the research of the RV expert.
