Solid Walls for Building One
November 6th, 2009
Clovis, CA-Weather cooperates and the historic Buchanan project marches on. Watch now as “Green News” goes on site for a very momentous occasion. Our HD cameras witness Logix foam forms become solid walls. It’s a key element to the green construction taking place right now. Five cement trucks rolled in and out for the big event.
A New Age Wall Rises
October 28th, 2009Central CA-While the sun shines, the unique walls climb on the Buchanan High School campus in Central California. Our coverage of the historic Buchanan Energy Building continues…we have a report within the report. Special Green: Historic Building
October 21st, 2009Central CA-Watch it develop in our “Green News” Special Reports. The historic endeavor on one high school campus in Central California. A one-of-a-kind educational structure designed to grow trees, rather than use them for building. We’ll start with the smart walls of steel and concrete and, oh yes, foam. Let the Mayor of Alviston.com explain the Logix behind that.
Tour Green Construction

September 13th, 2009Clovis Unified School District-Take a look at the progress. Ground has broken and the wheels are in motion on the first energy-efficient building of its kind out west. Buchanan High School is home to the Energy Building Project.
It’s a green building design that is sure to get more and more attention as the structure takes shape. Search Alviston.com for more information on the historic “green” project. In the meantime, we’ll continue to follow the progress.

*No carbon emissions were created and no fossil fuel used in gathering this story. Green News was within bicycling distance of the project so peddle power was the mode of transportation and a battery-powered digital camera was used for the pictures. The manufacturing of the camera, bike, and battery are the only carbon swap in the equation-those figures are minimal.
Historic Decision Progresses
August 1st, 2009Central CA — It is one thing to talk about “green” building. It is entirely another matter to make it happen. Decades of building habits will not disappear overnight.
Even with some green hurdles, the prestigious Clovis Unified School District decided to go ahead with its “green” dream. The Buchanan High School campus will be home to an energy-efficient, thoroughly green building.
Not only will it be a “green” beacon for the rest of the modern construction community, it will be a living breathing case study for students. The Mayor of Alviston, Mark Alvis, who helped craft the concept, discussed the progress on local radio.
Listen to Alvis, who recently was on the Bill McEwen Show on KYNO AM 1300 in Fresno.
A Landmark Decision
June 18th, 2009Central CA-After fiscal hesitation the Clovis Unified School District has decided to move forward with a landmark structure.
The respected school district will construct a truly “green” super energy efficient science building on its Buchanan High School campus.
The district is going to stand alone in the project. Once the 5.5 million dollar structure is complete, CUSD can boast a one-of-a-kind building. The idea is to build the super energy efficient “green” science lab that will demonstrate the virtues of new high tech-earth friendly construction techniques.
It is likely the structure will be a beacon for future construction. Alviston.com co-founder Mark Alvis is one of those responsible for the direction of the project. Watch the new building go up right here on “Green News.”
Construction is expected to start in July 2009.
An Honorable Visit
January 27th, 2009Central CA—He remains one of the great “green” ambassadors of this time. The mayor of Alviston is on the road spreading environmental good will and information. His Honor’s first stop was a high school class in the prestigious Clovis Unified School District. It’s a trick keeping young minds engaged with all of this “green” speak, but the mayor pulled it off, watch for yourself.
LEEDer of the Pack
December 3rd, 2008Central CA-Look carefully at the pictures above…they are the plans of the first LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design)-approved public building in Central California. What does that mean? Well, quite simply, it means that one school district is putting its green money into a “green building” that should become an environmental model for the future.
Clovis Unified School District is investing in the “green” movement in more ways than one. The school district is committed to building a “New Energy” building on the Buchanan High School campus to teach “green” values. Green News was first to report the commitment last month.
Not only will the new structure meet LEED standards, it will become a prime example of “green” construction. A green test tube of sorts. Even the roof will be a learning tool for students interested in “green.”
Taking this route could require more time, effort and money. But once the construction is complete, the returns to the school district (and quite literally the planet) could be vast. Architects and green designers like Alvis Projects have developed a greener and cleaner structure inside and out. Construction begins soon.
